We invite you to a discussion on the decolonization of art spaces in Basel and Switzerland. In a first online event, we host speakers from the art and cultural scene as well as political activists and voices from the Palestine solidarity movement. The format aims to foster mutual understanding and hold up the principles of human rights, focusing specifically on Palestinians’ right to self-determination, return, and freedom. We ask how the role of artists, curators, and institutions is changing rapidly in the face of the current political crisis and the ongoing genocide in Gaza, which now is expanding to the West Bank. We bring together perspectives from cultural workers with expertise in collective processes and participatory formats, as well as the skills of political organizers and academic scholars. The talk is open for everyone to participate and share their skills, questions and comments, inviting everyone independent of their personal or professional background to contribute to the process of decolonizing art and cultural work in Basel and beyond. We stand for an inclusive (art) world that encourages unity.
