Let the Rainbow Rain
The happening "Let the Rainbow Rain" took place on September 8, 2023 at Gallery Melbye-Konan with Udi Raz from Jewish Voice and Rashad Alhindi as a supporter of Palestine Speaks. We met to exchange and discuss the state of international solidarity and the peace movement in relation to the Palestinian liberation struggle, and the perspectives of Jewish and Palestinian activists and cultural workers. In particular, we looked at the current situation in Germany, where progressive voices are systematically suppressed and silenced. How does this affect the possibility of coming together and resisting? How do the two peace organizations "Jewish Voice" and "Palestine Speaks" work and what are their challenges in the German context?
The starting point for the conversation was our personal perspectives. We have different connections to historical Palestine and grew up with very different narratives. We talked about transformation processes and how our ideas about religion, nationality and history, for example, have changed in dialogue with others. How does one become open to new perspectives on one's own history? And how can a common and plural culture of remembrance emerge in Germany despite political restrictions, such as the ban on gatherings to commemorate the Nakba?
